4Nice Entry Level Scope - Worthless Tripod  Jul 07, 2009 By Peter H.
This is about as good as it gets under $150. The 80mm objective is definitely an improvement over a 60mm objective. Brighter image and "larger" image throughout the zoom range. Any scope at any price should have an objective larger than the maximum zoom range. Even a $400 60mm scope will not have a usable magnification beyond about 45x.
If you don't own a good tripod, plan on getting one in the $35-50 price range or greater. The size is tiny. The stability is poor with the incuded scope. Get one rated for at least 7.5 lbs.
Comes with case and soft bag. Great value despite lousy mini tripod.

3You get what you pay for  Apr 26, 2009 By O.S.
Amazingly, I managed to break the tripod within the first five minutes! Just forget it and buy a solid one, but the scope is worth the money, with a bright and fairly distortion-free image. The eyepoint is low though, and gets lower with higher magnification, so if you wear glasses you look through a tunnel. And remember that some spotting scopes cost 30 times as much.

5Strong, clear, and cheap!  Dec 09, 2009 By Travis JoHanson "raplhygigo"
For the price, i really like this package deal. i was going to order this same product from [...], but the shipping was almost $80 to hawaii! but on amazon, it was free! i was hesitant to buy it here cause it didnt say it came with a hard case like the one on opticsplanet, but it does, so it really is a good deal. the lens is extremely strong and clear. the tripod it comes with is really short, decently sturdy, but i would recommend getting a taller one. for a hard case, soft case, tripod, and scope; theres no better deal out there for under $150

4World Class Value  Nov 03, 2011 By Hilow "Bill"
No wonder we don't make things like this in the USA. We cannot compete with this value and quality at this price! Usable magnification is 20-50x. Things start to get blurry around 50-48 magnification, and beyond 48x it becomes simply unusable. The sweet spot is 20-40x. At this setting things are clear and sharp and surpass other scopes I tried at the range. The included retractable lens visor is of sufficient length to block direct sunlight. 20-50x realistically is all you need out to 200yds. This scope fits that bill. I set it on my bench next to the ejection port on my 5.56. It has deflected hundreds rounds without so much as a scratch. Quality is there. Included case is rugged and well designed. It has a carry handle, hard-case shoulder strap and quality removable felt lined pouch with storage pockets and removable, adjustable, quality 2" shoulder strap. Case is large enough to store extra batteries, chrono-gear and has user configurable inner panels. You can configure the interior to your hearts content, or gut it. Case is constructed of fiberglass panels encased in aluminum rails. Interior is heavily padded. Case alone is worth $50.

Only weak link is the tripod. I did not even bother to unwrap it. It went out with the shipping box. This scope is deserving of the recommended Alpen low profile stand. Did some research on this one. It came down to this and the Bushnell. I went with the larger objective. Tasco did a good job on this. I am no expert I can only relate what I saw and what I like. I like this scope. Whom ever subcontracts the case materials, design and manufacture for Tasco products did a magnificent job. Very cohesive package. World Class value!

4Buy This!!!!!  Feb 03, 2011 By Victor Mannahan
I don't know how much research you are doing when looking for a spotting scope, but for the price you are not going to find a better deal than this! I purchased this specifically for shooting purposes, and am very pleased. First off, it comes in a very well made aluminum storage caes which does an excellent job at protecting the scope. The scope itself is heavy, mainly because of its size. It is mostly made from plastic, but that don't really bother me...I will not have to worry about rust or protecting the paint from scratches! The sight picture is very crisp and clear for a SCOPE OF THIS PRICE, and the magnification at 60x is extremely useful. At the range, I can clearly see a .223 hole on a splatter target at 150 yards. What really helps with this is the objective lens this scope has. If you're looking for a spotting scope, you always want to make sure that the objective lens is bigger than the total available magnification. So for example, if the scope your looking to purchase has 50x magnification, you will want an objective lens that is at least 60mm...a hard to find feature in most spotting scopes! The focus works well and the only fault I can find with this scope is the included tripod. Like other reviews, the tripod that comes with the scope, is Mickey Mouse. Honestly, for the weight this scope has, they really should have included a better tripod. The tripod is flimsy, does not balance well, and its adjustments are very jumpy..very frustrating when you're at 60X magnification! I went out and purchased an $80 tripod at Cabella's, and still am not really satisfied...so if you really want a quality tripod, be prepared to spend some money! The tripod that comes with the scope will work, but it's not very user friendly.

Now..the reason this scope got only 4 stars. I ordered this as a Christmas present for my stepfather, and it arrived 3 days before, which was nice. What was not nice, was the fact that when FedEx knocked on the door, I opened it to find the delivery driver holding a box that looked like it was 20 years old and run over by a heard of Buffalo! The shipping box was water soaked, severly torn and damaged to the point where it was no longer usable, and my scope was just simply resting inside with no protection at all. The paper label that was supposed to be wrapped around the scope's aluminum case was torn and barely hanging on, and after close inspection, the aluminum case arrived with a dent on one corner the size of a quarter. The first thing I thought was "RETURN" when I saw all this, and after openeing up the case to inspect the scope itself, I was ready to pick up the phone and call Amazon. The scope was wet inside the aluminum case! Obviously my package sat out on the tarmak at a nearby airport and was totally soaked from rain and snow. I dried off the scope and let it warm up for a few hours and after I looked through it, the sight picture was fine...thank god! Since my stepfather tends to abuse his equipment anyway, I figured a small dent was not a deal breaker, so I wrapped it up and put it under the tree. So, while the scope is a great product for the price, I had to ding it a star because of the terrible shipping treatment it was shown.

Bottom line, if you're going to buy a spotting scope and don't have a ton of money to waste, this is a great buy! Just be prepared to purchase a better tripod!
