3Doesn't mold properly for me  Jun 05, 2009 By Hao Yan
I molded this mouthguard following the instructions exactly and afterwards the mouthguard does not fit well for me. It hurts my front teeth when I'm biting down on the guard. I think it's because the back part of it (shock absorbers) is too thick for me. When I bit down on it, the guard bends a little and cause it to pull my front teeth inward.

There's not much I can do with it in term of remolding. The first mold is the most important mold. I tried to re-mold it many times afterwards. It gave me a bit more wiggle room and alleviates some of the pain. But that also makes the guard not fit as tightly. I guess that's a downside to all boil and bite guards.

In addition, the gel is very soft, you don't even need boiling water to soften it. I tried just hot tap water during remolding and that's enough to soften it up. And I think the guard is also too shallow, or maybe my teeth are too long. It barely covers them. Finally, while it has gel on top and bottom, it does have a hard core in the middle, which restricts how well it can fit.

I give it a 3 star because it looks cool and I see no other problems with it, besides not fitting/uncomfortable to wear.

For $20, it's too expensive for me to try and found out not working. I guess I just have to suck it up and get a custom mouth guard. It's only about $30-40 more.

5Best Boil and Bite Mouthguard I've ever had  Sep 30, 2007 By W. Chandler
I've always had trouble finding a mouthguard that would form and fit my mouth well when fighting. I've gone through dozens of cheapo mouthguards and don't have the money to get a custom made mouthguard, so I finally decided to pick up a shock doctor and I have to say I'm very pleased with the product. The guard has this blue gel which when boiled becomes very soft and molds to your teeth during the forming process for an extra tight fitting. Of all the mouthguards I've ever used, this is the best I've ever used.

1Does not stay in place  Dec 11, 2008 By Aaron M
I bought this mouthgaurd because I read that it was supposed to stay in place when you had it in your mouth. It supposedly has a low profile and all of that...

Basically, I couldn't get it to stick to my upper jaw when my mouth was open. Which means you can't talk with it in. Also, the shock absorbers in the back that rest on your molars make my jaw really tired quickly.

I bought it for basketball and couldn't stand using it.

414 year old actually wears it  Oct 23, 2008 By Brian Renfro
14 year old son has worn in all 6 games since he recieved the gaurd. It is not uncomfortable to wear. It was easy to fit and is a good value. I would buy again and I recommend that all players wear a gaurd.

1Horrible  Aug 17, 2008 By Bruce W. "Bruce W."
Do not buy this mouth piece. I followed the directions specifically and it did not mold to my mouth properly. I compete in MMA competitions and whenever I get hit in the face the mouth piece moves and then I get bits of the plastic/rubber in my mouth. The only thing good about it is the dental warranty, but try to collect. It is completely overpriced and not effective.
