2Cheap product  May 29, 2007 By David J. Mitchell
A friend of mine bought this set for our Memorial Day picnic. We played two games with it and two of the mallets are now broken. Both broke when someone tried to knock somebody else's ball far away, but this is a normal tactic in croquet so it wasn't really excesive usage. In fact, one of the people who ended up breaking a mallet was a 9 year old kid, so it didn't take that much strength. The handles are made from a very light wood, and they were brave enough to cut ridges into the handles that weaken the material even more.

This is a fine set if you don't want to spend that much and a bunch of beginers are going to use it and not be that aggressive, but if you're serious about a croquet set, spend a little more to get something that can hold up to the sport.

2ok for a cheap game  Jun 30, 2008 By A. Bunton
The set is not really full sized, in that the mallets are short; however, adults can still use them, and small children can also. The balls are lighter weight and so don't roll well in grass. One of the mallet sticks was too small and so would not stay screwed in to the mallet head and had to be glued. For a family outing where you don't really care about the game but just want something cheap and portable, the set is fine. The price was certainly right.

4Great for little kids - Use Wood Glue  May 18, 2009 By Andy "Computer Enthusiast"
I was able to get this set at a local retailer for only $25, needless to say it was a no brainier compared to the much more expensive sets. The proportions are perfect for children under 9 years old. This is not an adult set, but you can make it work even if you're really tall (just bend a bit more!). The set includes every thing you will need and the one sheet instructions shows a diagram of a proper court. The nylon bad holds everything, including the assembled sticks.

The problem with most of these assemble / dissemble Croquet sets is the handles always fall off in due time. So, I used very good quality wood glue (get the indoor / outdoor glue - not just indoor) and put it on both sides of the groves in the mallet head, then hand twist tight and let it dry.

You will be creating essentially 6 permanent sticks. The directions are fairly complex, but Halex Corporation is part of Regent Sports (think Spalding too). So, you can get decent customer support on most of the items they sell, plus they print all the rules of the major outdoor games on their site (Bocce, Croquet, Badminton, etc.) :

2not for adults  Jan 07, 2009 By J. Simmons
I was unable to tell by looking at this online, but it is a very small set and more appropriate for children than adults. It would give an adult a backache to try to play a full game. We had to return it. It did look like a nice set, if shopping for a child.

3Wooden Croquet Set  Apr 25, 2009 By S. Kelley
Halex Select 6 Player Croquet Set in Deluxe Carry Case
This is a nice set. Sturdy and lots of back yard fun. The only thing I don't like is that in order for the mallets to fit back into the carry case for storage, you have to unscrew the head from the handle. Then each time you play you have to reassemble the mallets.
