By Javajane Not sure why the other reviewer said it is not heavy enough for grass- these mallets are very heavy and sturdy. My sons abuse it and it has held up all summer. It is easy to set up and easy to store away.

The set is suitable for a bare, packed, and leveled playing field. But, on grass the mallets are not heavy enough. It is suitable for younger children rather than adults.

I have been wanting my grandchildren to get off of the couch and stop watching TV and playing all of those video games. So, I came up with a plan. I started buying lots of outdoor games in the sporting goods area of Amazon. I really hit the jackpot when that same week they had a special 10% off of all items bought in that area and with free shipping! Who could beat that. So I saved time,I got the items at a special sale price,on top of Amazon's usual low price, free shipping,no tax, traffic, lines and high priced gas to deal with. I was in heaven.Getting back, I want to get them into the sun and have fun while getting exercise too. As a child, I remember playing Croquet with my 5 brothers and sisters for hours on end. The neighbor kids would soon join in, and many had their own sets. Before long, our entire front yard would be filled with children hitting those little wood balls through those little white plastic arches (a few years before the golden arches came along). Boy did we have fun! This is a great game. The one I purchased is a beginner set, (see below). It comes in a really nice carrying case, which will make it easy to bring the set along on our vacations, and not have to worry about the pieces getting lost. The balls are plastic coated too, which is a nice feature. The playing mallots are sturdy enough for the younger child, say (2-9). It is sold at a great price and well made, being constructed of wood, which is hard to find these days. They do make sets for older children and adults. Ok, off to the front yard!

I hesitated to purchase this because there are mixed reviews on the set. I purchased this for my 3 and 4 year old to play in our backyard so I figure I will give it a try. Package arrived on time. The carrying bag is rather flimsy. One light tuck, it is torn. It is a very very light weight recycling bag type of material. The woods are a bit rough to the hands. Overall length of handles are short for adults, but good for kids or adults who are 5'3" or shorter. The rubber coating of one ball is already cracked or you can say the seam is not closed. The mallets need to be assembled by screwing the handles into the mallet which can be easily done. One of the handle I received was not able to screw all the way down so that makes it easy to break. The white metal wire hoops are very flimsy, they are very thin that I can barely see them on the lawn. It bends extremely easy. The set should last for more than a season but overall, I think the quality can be a little better for the price you paid for. I returned the set mainly because a few things are defective.
