Selecting the right tension Dec 25, 2009
By Arthur Bradley
"Arthur Bradley"
From all the previous reviews, I knew these hand exercisers would be good solid devices - and they are. My only concern was what tension level to pick. Just as a data point for others, I'm a 71 inches tall, 180 pounds, fit male. I lift weights regularly, but am by no means a bodybuilder or powerlifter. I purchased the medium strength units, wondering if 7 lbs per finger was too much or too little. I've found that if I power grip them (basically just grab them like a barbell, squeeze and release), I can easily do 100 or more repetitions. This leads me to think that the Mediums are too light if I only want to power grip. Same is probably true for many of you.
However, two things changed my mind about this. First I went to the Prohands website and found that several of the exercises they demonstrate (e.g. fingertipping) are much harder than the simple power grip. Also, by holding the grip for 3-5 seconds as recommended, even the power grip becomes more challenging. In the end, I've decided that the 7 lb units give me a very good workout.
My suggestion is if you only want to power grip, then you may want something heavier - obviously dependent on your hand strength. But if you value doing exercises that fully articulate your fingers in various ways, then you might want to try the Mediums.
Please be kind enough to indicate if reviews are helpful.

Very Happy With GripMaster Products Feb 21, 2008
By D. Farrell I was given the Medium Tension (7 lbs) Gripmaster as a hand-me-down gift almost a decade ago. It looked brand new when I got it, and it looks brand new today.
I eventually upgraded to the Heavy Tension (9 lbs) version, which was the strongest version you could buy for a long time.
Amazon remembered my Gripmaster purchase and decided to alert me to the new Gripmaster Pro products.
I could not have been happier to hear about it and I ordered it right away!
The construction is much beefier than the standard Gripmaster. And if the standard model lasts for 10+ years, I can't even imagine how long this one will last!
You have to have a larger hand in order to hold it comfortably and The curved part is not removable like the old Gripmaster, which I kinda miss.
I am very happy with the product and will continue to buy stronger version as they become available.

Much Better than the 'Regular' non-pro version Mar 14, 2009

I've been using Gripmasters for many years now and my only complaint was that rubber piece that sits against the palm kept twisting off the grip. So when I lost my Gripmaster and decided to replace it I was thrilled that I found the Pro unit. It resolves my only complaint about the Grimaster by removing rubber piece and molding a new palm rest directly into the unit.

Excellent gripper Dec 14, 2008
By D. Donelson I was having some hand issues and decided to start strengthening them up. I began with the standard Gripmaster (also very good products) in the medium tension, then moved up to the heavy tension. That got my hands even stronger so I thought I would go for this Pro model to keep increasing strength even more. I bought two so I can go simultaneously. These are very nicely made and the extra-heavy tension is just right for my now greatly improved hand strength. I play the guitar and these devices have helped enormously with my hand strength and endurance while playing.
Hint - if you reverse the grip (hold the base in your fingers and work one of the individual finger springs with your thumb) it makes a perfect exercise to strengthen your thumb muscles as well.
I recommend all the Gripmaster products - they have done a lot of good for me and are very well made. This model should last me for a long time. If somehow I wear them out I will absolutely buy new ones.

Gripmaster is worth every penney Jul 14, 2008

I have three grip masters; Medium, Heavy, and PRO Extra Heavy Tension - 11 lbs. I purchased them to use to strengthen my left index finger to play 6 string barr cords on the guitar. After only a few weeks, I'm able to play up and down the fret board making all strings sound clear.
I use them on each finger of both the left and right hand. I haven't played golf since I started using them, but I think it will help with getting some extra distance too.
